Bla Bla Bla.
So what if they see you?
Why are we so terrified of how other people see us?
We mistake it as a truth about our identity. We let what other people say about us become us. We put too much weight in other people’s opinions. We give them too much power over how we see ourselves. We act like people and their thoughts about us determine who we really are. That is not the case. We can choose to see judgments simply for what they are—an opinion. Just because it is an opinion doesn’t mean it is true. Opinions are simply thoughts, they don’t have to mean anything.
If you were to ask most people which gender they thought put more effort into their outfit choices and which seemed to care more about how they’re perceived by others- you would overwhelmingly get “Women” as the answer.
One thing I see consistently is fear of wearing the wrong thing, fear of not looking “general public approved”, fear of putting themselves out there and not having a positive response, and fear of allowing their true-self to shine through their style. While we may not purposefully think it, when trying something outside of our normal comfort zone, negative thoughts often have an uninvited way of creeping in and have us thinking, “What will happen when I wear this?”, “Can I pull this off?”, “people will think I’m full of myself”, or something else along those lines.
